My Role
I played a central role in the design process, managing key aspects such as product scoping, user flows, wireframing, rapid prototyping, and usability testing. I also led user research, facilitated workshops, and synthesized findings for actionable insights and ideas.
Project Overview
Overview
Many people use point accumulation cards but often misplace them or forget to bring them while shopping, leading to missed points. Alternatively, they resort to accumulating points separately through various shopping apps. Our app simplifies this process by organizing your saved point cards and integrating them seamlessly with just one barcode, streamlining point accumulation.
Goal
"Pointree” aims for quick, easy access and automatic organization of your information, enhancing convenience and versatility in point card accumulation. Here are our key differentiators from other apps.
  1. Point Card Integration: Users can manage multiple store point cards in one place, eliminating the need for to install multiple apps or to carry physical cards.
  2. Diverse Utilization Options: Pointree allows users to exchange points for gift cards, redeem shopping benefits, or donate them to friends, providing users with flexibility with the use of their points.
  3. Enhanced User Experience: Pointree’s user-friendly interface, intuitive functuality and quick redemption processes lead to a more convenient experience for users.
With these differentiators, Pointree innovatively transforms the point accumulation experience for users and provides them with   greater benefits.
Initial Thinking
Target Users
  • Targeted 20-30s single men and women.
  • Researched young individuals who frequently shop online or offline, and extensively utilize gift cards.
Research Methods
  • Online survey (Miro)
  • 1:1 in-depth interview
  • Research online
Design Process
How might we..
It's kind of a hassle not being able to see all my points in one spot. Is there a simpler way to gather them all up and use them easily?
Research
Part 01
Identifying Opportunity.
To conduct online research on articles about earning points and perform market research to assess the extent of people's utilization of gift cards, points, and coupons. Furthermore, I created a comprehensive list outlining individuals' preferences for earning and redeeming points while shopping to explore potential common concerns regarding point accumulation and usage. I refined the scope to include the most insightful 10 questions related to the topic and conducted interviews with four women and two men, each lasting 20 minutes.
Method :  Q&A Interview, Market research
Q&A Interview
Market Research
Q1. Do you usually make use of coupons or points,
either online or offline?
Q2. What are your thoughts on earning and redeeming points?
Q3. Do you have any experience using point-earning apps?
If so, how often do you use them?
- If you've used them, what were some inconveniences or difficulties?
Q4. What format do you find more convenient for accumulating points? Why do you feel that way?
Q5. What format do you find more beneficial for spending accumulated points? Why do you feel that way?
Q6. Please share any specific experiences of inconvenience or suggestions you have encountered while earning or using points, both online and offline.
Interview Hight-lights
01
It would be great if all my store points were neatly organized in one place on my phone.
02
I want a feature to link my credit card for automatic point accumulation during shopping.
03
Is there an easier way to collect reward points?
*Certainly, there's ample space for refining my research approach here! I delve further into this in my conclusion...
Through our survey, customers frequently use reward cards and believed that using points helps consumers spend more wisely or save money.
We found that gift cards and coupons are widely used across all age groups, as indicated by the survey, with particularly active usage online.
Part 02
Understanding the problem.
Pointree App is a service that helps users set goals and reach them in a way that suits them. Through the point accumulation app, potential users can set and achieve the following goals:

  • Quick Shopping - Uploading receipt photos, electronic receipts, or registering credit card information, users can automatically accumulate points with each purchase, simplifying the tracking and collection process.
3. Multipurpose Points Utilization:
  • Points Donation - Users can set goals to donate their accumulated points, contributing to social causes and making a positive impact.

4. Social Goals:
  • Community Engagement - Interact with other users through the app’s communication page, sharing experiences and earning points, fostering a sense of community.
Method :  Competitive Analysis, Persona, User Journey Map, User Storyboarding
Competitive Analysis
Nothing on the market helps you easily and effective organize my cards.
Nothing on the market shows for efficiently collecting points and managing multiple cards in one place. We're also exploring simpler point accumulation methods using personal barcodes.
Persona
Create two main personas based on insights from research.
User Journey Map
User journey was mapped to better understand the users’ journey and discover specific points that can be improved for a better user experience.
User Storyboarding
These illustrations depict a situation where the decision- making responsibility is mitigated from the user.
Chloe is finishing her homework and getting ready to go grocery shopping for dinner.
Chloe is browsing the aisles. She prefers eco-friendly or organic products. And she bought a lot of items today.
She attempted to collect points at checkout, only to realize that the point accumulation card she expected to find in her wallet was missing.
No matter how hard she looked, she couldn't find the points card, She couldn't accumulate points.Chloe was feeling very down.
Design
Information Architecture
After brainstorming the app's core functionalities, I quickly sketched them out using Crazy 8's, and then elaborated on them through wireframing.

Wireframe with Annotation
At this stage, my primary focus was on onboarding personalization, and I sought early external feedback. I invited 3 individuals to explore the prototype without guidance to assess:
  • The intuitiveness of the navigation
  • Any missing features or information they would have found useful
  • Their overall feelings during the process
Overall, feedback indicated an excess of features, prompting us to streamline. Therefore, our focus now lies on two key aspects: earning points by registering receipts with a credit card and organizing loyalty cards from affiliated stores for point accumulation.

Usability Test
We conducted tests with a total of 6 people, consisting of 3 women and 3 men, primarily targeting young individuals living alone. After completing the test, they provided feedback on areas that could be improved.

Conclusion
Moving Forward
  • Developing all the features on every page and making them interactive.
  • Creating a sample plan to see if Pointree's method really works well.
  • Testing with more users to see what keeps them interested in other apps.
What I  learned
  • In the process of app development, refining and enhancing designs through user testing seems crucial.
  • Thinking about how to intuitively present the core functions of the design.
  • Despite the ongoing significance of the project, I took the lead in overall design as team engagement waned over time. Encouraging and boosting team participation during periods of fatigue were also key learnings for me.
